An Alabama Monk Bicycles the British Isles
Father Aloysius Plaisance, O.S.B., (1920-1992) was a Benedictine monk and priest of Saint Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Alabama. Holding a Ph.D. in History from St. Louis University, Father Aloysius served as Professor of History, Chairman of the History Department, and, eventually, President of the College at Saint Bernard College, the school owned and operated by the monks of Saint Bernard Abbey. Throughout his life, Father Aloysius was an avid hiker, biker, traveler and writer, recounting many of his adventures on the road in a travel column written for the local newspaper, The Cullman Times. This volume presents his account of his travels throughout the British Isles on his trusty ten-speed bicycle during a fifteen-month Sabbatical at Oxford.
